Watch: Strange 'fish frenzy' unfolds at Spanish marina

People at a Spanish marina were left scratching their heads when hundreds of frantic fish inexplicably jumped out of the water and beached themselves all along the pavement. The puzzling incident reportedly occurred this past Sunday in the coastal city of Garrucha. Footage of the bewildering event (seen above) went viral on Spanish social media, with many skeptical viewers insisting that the eerie scene had to have been an AI creation. However, their assertions were squashed by the head of the city's fisherman's guild, who confirmed the veracity of the video.

"In my 39 years of life I had never seen anything like that," Gregorio Jerez said of the footage, "but yes, it’s real." As for what caused the weird event, various theories were offered online, including the possibility that environmental factors were to blame. However, as is often the case with such mysterious moments, experts quickly quelled the speculation by explaining that the fish, a sardine species, were likely attempting to escape sizeable predatory tuna that had been seen in the waters around the marina at the same time as the incident.
