Video: 'Conjuring House' going up for auction on Halloween
The infamous Conjuring House, which has been at the center of a series of controversies over the last year, is set to be sold in an auction fittingly held this coming Halloween. According to a local media report, the purportedly haunted Rhode Island home turned tourist attraction in the community of Burrillville fell into foreclosure this summer. Last week, JJ Manning Auctioneers announced the forthcoming Halloween sale date that was undoubtedly chosen due to the site's spooky reputation.
The forthcoming auction is something of a culmination in a strange saga that began when the now-former owner of the property, Jacqueline Nuñez, made headlines last August for firing a worker who, she claimed, the site's resident ghost had accused of stealing. Following subsequent clashes with the local community, the paranormal tourist attraction eventually lost its entertainment license last November, leading to additional controversy over refunds for people who had paid to stay at the haunted residence, but were left out in the proverbial cold when the business shuttered.
With the Conjuring House no longer able to function as a tourist attraction, it was largely abandoned in the last few months until it ultimately fell into foreclosure. As one might imagine, the auction house overseeing the sale envisions considerable interest in the site that spawned a sprawling cinematic universe consisting of a staggering nine supernatural films to date. "This is not just a local sell or a regional sell. It’s not even national. It’s truly international," Justin Manning marveled, indicating that they expect something of a festival-like atmosphere for the Halloween sale, including costumed fans anxious to see who will ultimately become the next caretaker of the haunted house.
