Two upright, ape-like creatures spotted near Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain, raise unanswered questions

In late February 2018, a quiet afternoon drive near one of Britain’s most historic landscapes took an unexpected and deeply unsettling turn. What appeared in a distant Wiltshire field was not easily dismissed as livestock or people and left two witnesses questioning reality itself. Encounters like this continue to surface around ancient landscapes, raising the question of whether something unrecognized still moves through these places.

"I want to report a strange incident that occurred in 2018 near Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. I later learned that the area was east of Grovely Wood. My mother and I witnessed something moving across a clearing that we couldn't explain. It was quite far away, so I didn't get a good look at its face or details. However, it was clear that it wasn't just two people moving quickly. I'm used to seeing cows and farm animals from a distance, as there are plenty of them in Salisbury. As we drive around, you get accustomed to seeing animals or wildlife in the fields, but these 'figures' stood out as unusual.

There were two prominent upright 'figures' in a distant field, striding along together quite quickly. One was light brown, and the other was darker. They were moving at a fast pace away from us. Both of us were so shocked that we kept asking each other if we had really seen that.

At the time, we were in the car driving back home on the A36. I wanted to stop and get out for a cigarette, and my mom decided to join me to stretch her legs and get some fresh air. We were looking out at the countryside and chatting when we saw these two huge 'figures' walk out from behind some bushes. If they hadn't moved, we would never have noticed them. They walked from behind the bush and headed toward the next cluster of trees. It felt like we could see them for about a minute before they disappeared behind another bush in the field. We looked for a while, but they never came back out or moved in our direction. I know what people might say, but they were much larger than any cow I've ever seen, let alone a human. Even from that distance, it was clear they were walking upright on two legs at a fast pace. It was just unbelievable.

It was probably between 3 and 4 pm, so the light was good. It wasn't dark yet, as this occurred at the end of February 2018. I've never really been interested in things like this, but since I witnessed that, I can't explain it. I genuinely want to know more about it. What were they? They resembled two ‘Ape Man’ types. The Sasquatch images I've seen look quite similar to what I saw that day, but that seems impossible. Has anyone else seen anything like this in the area?

We were able to observe them for quite a while, but I didn't think to grab my phone or take any pictures. It wasn't until afterward that I realized I should have captured that moment. Why didn't I take a video or a photo? It's strange because you'd think that if you saw something like that, you would want to document it immediately. But I didn't feel that way. We watched them walk, waited a few minutes, then got back in the car to drive home. We kept asking each other, "Did we really see that?" "What were they?" "How could we have seen them?" And I'm still pondering those questions now." W

COMMENTARY & NOTES

This report contains several recurring patterns in upright cryptid encounters, including multiple witnesses, daylight conditions, bipedal locomotion, size disparity relative to known animals, and the curious absence of an urge to document the event. The emotional tone reflects confusion rather than fear, often noted in encounters that do not feel overtly threatening.

Wiltshire, particularly the Salisbury Plain and Grovely Wood region, has a long history of anomalous sightings. Grovely Wood itself has been associated with reports of large unidentified figures, unexplained sounds, and long-standing folklore involving wild men and forest spirits. Similar upright hairy humanoid sightings have been reported elsewhere in the United Kingdom, including Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, the Brecon Beacons in Wales, and parts of Dartmoor.

Possible interpretations include a relict hominid presence, an ultraterrestrial or interdimensional phenomenon tied to ancient landscapes, or an environmental perception anomaly triggered by movement and scale at distance. The proximity to Stonehenge and other Neolithic sites may be significant, as these locations are frequently linked to repeated anomalous activity across multiple categories. Lon
