Dirt road motorcyclist stumbles upon strange creature, Puerto Rico

Location. Cuesta Blanca, near La Parguera, Puerto Rico

Date: end of August 1991 Time: 11:30 a.m.

Ulises Perez was riding his motorcycle on a dirt road in a desolate cattle ranch in the Cuesta Blanca sector, located between La Parguera and the Laguna Cartagena. As he rode along, his bike fell into a water-filled hole and the engine sputtered then cut out. He began to check it, and after fixing what he believed to be the problem and trying to start it again, he looked into the irrigation ditch – and saw a strange creature there. He saw something seated or crouched over a log beside a tree. The creature’s skin looked as if it was ‘raw’ – like when you cut off a slice of skin and the cut looks whitish with pinkish-red spots. That’s how it looked. It had pale, whitish skin, like those pale salamander lizards. They looked at each other for a moment, without moving. He is not ashamed to admit that he was scared by that creature, and he tried to start the bike and get away. As he moved, the thing jumped and disappeared under the water in the canal. He saw its feet disappear under the water lilies. Ulises started the bike and fled. On reaching home, he nervously explained what he had seen. His friends and relatives wouldn’t believe him but agreed to come with him to the site. Seeing the crushed lilies there, they believed him and were scared.

According to Ulises what impressed him the most was its big head and those huge black eyes. This irrigation canal leads directly to the Laguna Cartagena.
