Cressie: An eel-like creature, Crescent Lake, Newfoundland, Canada
Located next to a small town called Robert’s Arm in Newfoundland, Canada, is Crescent Lake. Cressie is often described as an eel-like creature that measures up to 15 feet in length. There are thought to be more than one gigantic eel in this lake, as witnesses encountered in the 1980s. When scuba divers went into the lake to recover the body of a pilot from a plane crash, they found themselves suddenly surrounded by a school of enormous eels. The divers quickly retreated and were shaken by their encounter with the creatures that were “described as being as thick as a man’s thigh”.
The town is extremely proud of its local sea monster. Each year, there is a Cressie Festival lasts up to a week long and is typically held in July. It has even been given a pseudo-scientific name: Cressiteras anguilloida.
