Aggressive winged humanoid confronts siblings near S. Ridgeway and W. 24th street in Chicago
Something far more menacing than a passing shape in the night descended upon a Little Village street in September 2017, closing the distance between itself and two terrified siblings. The encounter unfolded blocks away from a prior winged humanoid sighting on S. Millard Avenue, raising alarming questions about a possible escalation in behavior. What happened along S. Ridgeway that night remains one of the most aggressive Chicago Mothman reports ever documented.
The incident occurred on Saturday, September 16, 2017, around 10:00 PM CT. The original report was submitted in Spanish:
"We were walking back from visiting a family member's house when we saw what looked like a giant bat, later described as having large wings and being black, fly overhead and continue down the street. As we walked further, we saw that the bat had landed across the street from a convenience store (tiendita) at the corner of S. Ridgeway Ave. and W. 24th St. We noticed that it was watching us as we approached the intersection; the lights made it easy to see. As we got closer, someone came out of the tiendita, and the creature turned its attention to that person. The individual screamed and ran away. At that point, the bat turned back to us, opened its wings, and took a step toward us. My sister and I didn’t wait to see what would happen next and ran back towards W. 23rd St.
The family member's house we had visited was near the viaduct where the train passes overhead. This large bat let out a shriek and took off into the air, flying just over our heads before landing about 15 feet in front of us on the road. It stared directly at us and shrieked again. At that moment, a car turned onto S. Ridgeway Ave. from W. 24th St. The bat lifted off the road and flew away, leaving us cowering on the sidewalk.
We had never been so scared in our lives, and we dread to think what might have happened if that car hadn’t turned the corner when it did. The vehicle continued without stopping, and we headed back to our family member's house, where her son gave us a ride home."
NOTE: After receiving the report, an investigator contacted the witnesses and had a lengthy telephone conversation with each. Both siblings recounted the events leading up to the encounter and consistently told the same story without embellishment. Even after being questioned separately, they provided the same account.
The investigator believed that the sighting appeared genuine. This series of encounters took place within a few blocks of another incident on S. Millard Ave. the previous week. This account describes a more aggressive being than any prior reports. The investigator suspects there may have been real danger if the circumstances had been slightly different. It is hoped that this is not an ominous sign for the future. Lon

COMMENTARY
This report stands out due to the entity’s overtly confrontational behavior, which is far more aggressive than typical Chicago winged-humanoid encounters. Key patterns include the creature repeatedly closing the distance, vocalizing, and redirecting attention in response to human movement. The emotional tone is consistent with high-grade fear, and the siblings’ matched testimony strengthens credibility. The location sits within an active cluster that saw multiple sightings between late summer and fall 2017, including one just a few blocks away on S Millard Avenue. The behavior described here suggests either a territorial response or an ultraterrestrial presence interacting more directly with human observers than usual. Lon
