Survey explores Americans' interest in astrology, fortune-telling, & tarot cards

An enlightening new survey from the Pew Research Center explores Americans' interest in astrology, tarot cards, and fortune-telling. The rather exhaustive study, which polled 9,593 people, was reportedly conducted in October of last year with the findings released on Wednesday. The overarching result of the survey was that 30% of the respondents turned to one of the three divination practices "at least once or twice a year." Of that group, 10% indicated that they believe soothsaying provided "helpful insights" with seven percent saying they rely on astrology, tarot cards, or fortune-telling "at least a little" when making significant life decisions.

Beyond those who utilize divination in their lives, the study also inquired about Americans' belief in astrology with the findings providing fascinating insights along an array of different demographic categories. To that end, 35% of the female participants gave credence to soothsaying as opposed to 18% of their male counterparts. A similar disparity could be found in the responses from age groups as 33% of Americans 18-29 expressed a belief in astrology while this opinion was shared by only 17% of people over 65. On a different note, religiously affiliated participants and those who are not had nearly identical answers to the question with 17% from the former group and eighteen percent from the latter camp.
