25th SCO Summit
The 25th summit of the 20 heads of state and government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Tianjin, China, near Shanghai, on August 31 and September 1. The SCO is now the most important international organization.
Speaking at the event, Chinese President Xi Jinping, who held the rotating chairmanship of the SCO, stressed that it should contribute to the preservation of peace, global stability and common values of mankind.
He introduced three major platforms for China-SCO cooperation in energy, green industry and digital economy, and the establishment of three major cooperation centers for scientific and technological innovation, higher education, and vocational and technical education.
Xi Jinping proposed the "Global Governance Initiative" (GGI), while stressing the need to retain the status and authority of the UN. He advocated for relying on five principles, namely respecting the sovereign equality of each state, complying with international law, practicing multilateralism, promoting a people-centered approach, and focusing on taking concrete action. "There should be no double standards, and the internal rules of some countries should not be imposed on others," he said.
"Although the historical trends of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit remain unchanged, the Cold War mentality, hegemonism and protectionism continue to haunt the world," he noted.
