In all cultures, more than 50% of the people who are conscious while dying say that they see their deceased loved ones waiting for them. Sometimes they say that they can see beautiful places in the spirit world and hear beautiful music. There are several cases on record with the Society for Psychical Research where the spirit visitors were seen by others at the bedside of the dying person, occasionally by several persons at the same time. Since the 1960s these "deathbed visions" have been widely studied, often by hospice nurses and doctors who are well aware of them.
