Haunted Massachusetts mansion goes up for sale

A notoriously haunted Massachusetts mansion with a long history of paranormal activity has gone on the market for $1.2 million. According to a local media report, the spooky site in the city of Gardner was built in 1875 by furniture magnate Sylvester K. Pierce. Almost immediately, the 7,000-square-foot estate was the site of tragedy as the businessman's wife, Susan, passed away only a few weeks after the family had taken up residence in the mansion.

Around a decade later, the home was at the center of considerable family strife as Pierce's heirs fought over ownership of the mansion that was later turned into a boarding house. During its time in that capacity, it is claimed that multiple people passed away under unusual circumstances, including Finnish immigrant Eino Saar, who may have been a rare victim of spontaneous human combustion. The tragic and unnerving deaths at the S.K. Pierce Mansion gave rise to countless reports of paranormal activity at the site.

The eerie incidents are so plentiful that the residence has been dubbed one of the most haunted homes in the United States by some ghost hunters, leading to the mansion being featured on several paranormal television shows. The site's current owners, Rob and Allison Conti, purchased the residence in 2011 and, after refurbishing the site, opened it to the public around a decade later. Having decided to move on from the mansion, the pair have put the home on the market in the hopes of finding a prospective buyer who will honor the unusual legacy of the legendary location.
