Full moon in Scorpio: increased sensitivity and clarity

We are having a Full Moon in Scorpio on May 7th, and it will appear the fullest on night of the 6th in the Americas. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon in Taurus on April 22nd/23rd, as the themes mentioned in that article are still in effect. The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may start to see its effects slowly build up after the New Moon prior to it.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Scorpio and the Sun in Taurus. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Scorpio side and others expressing the Taurus side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Scorpio Opposite Sun In Taurus

Taurus season began on April 19th/20th and will last until May 20th when the Sun goes into Gemini. Taurus is about practicality, thoroughness, pleasures, food, possessions, beauty, and nature. It is a sensual, tangible, and grounded energy. As a ‘Fixed Earth’ sign, it is like a rock, and is the most invested in the physical/material world in comparison to the rest of the signs. It can also be slow, rigid, habitual, and lazy.

This Full Moon is in its opposite sign of Scorpio, triggering a push-pull or integration effect between both of these signs. Scorpio energy is deep, complex, investigative, passionate, intuitive, driven, powerful, calculated, observant, primal, regenerating, transformational, mysterious, intense, desiring, and sexual. It is associated with fears, shadows, death, secrets, hidden matters, conspiracies, and the extremes of Love and Hate. Scorpio energy can also be controlling, obsessive, jealous, aggressive, savage, vengeful, and manipulative.

While Taurus is more concerned about what is tangible, pleasant, and what’s on the surface, Scorpio likes to dive deep even if it gets ugly, scary, or uncomfortable. Both signs are associated with money, resources, values, and worth; with Taurus’ expression of these things being more ‘self-oriented’ and Scorpio being more ‘relationship/shared oriented.’ Scorpio is associated with taxes, debt, credit, investments, inheritance, which all include more then one party to be involved. Both signs also share qualities of being loyal, stubborn, and possessive.

Full Moon Aspecting Mercury Sextile Neptune

The Full Moon is opposing Mercury and trine Neptune, which are both in a sextile with each other. The opposition can reflect conflict between thoughts and feelings, or rational thinking with emotion. However, Neptune in the mix helps to harmonize this configuration with compassion, sensitivity, and  intuition. We can be more inspired in a creative or imaginative way. This aspect can also be good for communications or interactions of a spiritual or mystical nature.

Mercury is now travelling ahead of the Sun as of May 4th/5th which can lead us to a period of more clarity and around what has been playing out in recent months. We may have increased confidence around some situations and this configuration with Neptune can also reflect a sense of intuitive certainty.

Full Moon and Mercury Aspecting Pluto, Jupiter, and Mars

The Full Moon and Mercury are in harmonious aspects with Pluto and Jupiter which accentuates some of the Scorpio themes mentioned above. Jupiter has already been close to Pluto (both in Capricorn) over the last 6 weeks, especially in late March and early April. I covered it more in my previous New Moon article.

This reflects deep perspectives, and expansiveness or exploration around Plutonian themes of transformation, subversion, evolution, fear, intensity, hidden matters, darkness, and shadows. This energy will be triggered mainly from May 7th-10th and from May 14th-18th.

The Full Moon and Mercury are also in a hard square with Mars in Aquarius which will play out somewhat during the Full Moon, but may be more noticeable around May 10th-11th (or 12th in the Eastern part of the world). At best this can reflect a busy, productive, and quick thinking energy. However, it can also be harder to focus and we can get irritable, hasty, or impulsive in our actions or reactions. Communicative conflicts, arguments, and competitiveness can also play out.

Venus Square Neptune As It Slows Down To Go Retrograde

As mentioned in my previous article, Venus is currently slowing down to go retrograde on May 13th in Gemini. It has already been in its post-retrograde shadow period since April 9th/10th. Some of the things that are occurring during this current period will contribute to how the retrograde plays out for us.

Venus developments around love, relationships, friends, values, attraction, aesthetics, art, creativity, money, pleasures, social life, and overall social connections may go through some shifts and a sorting out process now and in the coming months. The way we currently see or experience certain Venus ruled areas can change as this retrograde and post-retrograde process plays out. At this time, it can also be a good period to reconnect with old friends and loved ones. I will be covering this upcoming retrograde more in future content, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Venus is currently in a square with Neptune in Pisces which will last until late May after the retrograde begins. At best this can be creatively stimulating or bring a spiritual/mystical dimension to our social lives. However, this can also reflect confusion, misunderstandings, disappointments, delusion, and issues around boundaries in our relationships, financially, or perhaps around other Venus areas mentioned above. Escapism with pleasures is also another way this can play out for many people.

Things To Consider

What has been coming up for you pertaining to your relationships and social life, and what changes do you need to make in these areas? How do your values differ from the values of others? Which people in your life correspond with your values? How do ideals fit into this? Do you need to have a more compassionate or sensitive approach with those who don’t see eye to eye with you? How can you integrate deep or complex feelings with practical or rational consideration? Do you need to make any changes around financial matters?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is on May 7th at 10:45am Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.
