US news calls flu shot thinkers conspiracy theorists

There is an increasing amount of research, showing some definite issues with seasonal flu vaccination.  Let’s take a look, then we can read what US News and World  recently reported.

It’s that time of year again.  Flu shot signs everywhere. 80,000 people died last year, the CDC is telling us, from the flu.  What they are not telling us is many received the flu vaccine and still got ill .  Here is a research paper that seems to explain this phenomenon:

Increased Risk of Noninfluenza Respiratory Virus Infections Associated With Receipt of Inactivated Influenza Vaccine trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) recipients had an increased risk of virologically-confirmed non-influenza infections….

Previous research   has shown that “ children who had been vaccinated annually over a number of years were more likely to contract the flu…..”

This from CDC recently - :  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued its annual recommendations on the flu vaccine. The agency suggests that everyone 6 months and older should be vaccinated for influenza each season, ideally by the end of October.

The mad rush to get in line for a vaccine now, months before the height of the “seasonal flu” may actually be another reason cases can climb.  Here’s a recent study that shows this is indeed very plausible:

Study: Flu vaccine protection starts to wane within weeks

Though the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends administration of the flu vaccine by the end of October, a new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases suggests that vaccine effectiveness may begin dropping within weeks of administration, adding more evidence of waning protection over the course of a single flu season.

Researchers from Kaiser Permanente Northern California showed that the risk of contracting the flu climbs about 16% for every 28 days after vaccination. That means many people could be less protected during the height of flu season if they get vaccinated at the beginning of September.  Full study here  .

Here is an older study also showing flu shots can mess with the immune system ( hampers the development of virus-specific CD8+ T cell responses) raising questions about safety: Annual Vaccination against Influenza Virus Hampers Development of Virus-Specific CD8+ T Cell Immunity in Children

…..annual vaccination against influenza is effective but may have potential drawbacks that have previously been underappreciated and that are also a matter of debate….

People, and parents especially, are becoming more skeptical of the effectiveness, safety, and seemingly willy-nilly recommendations:

As fall approaches with new school year underway, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued revised flu vaccination recommendations for the upcoming season, which say children ages 6 months and older should get the flu shot and that the live attenuated nasal spray vaccine (FluMist) should be used only as a last resort.

The group's recommendation regarding FluMist is slightly different than that of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has no preferential recommendation between injectable vaccines and the inhaled formulation.

In May, a few months after CDC vaccine advisors cleared the use of FluMist after a 2-year absence from the US market, the AAP signaled that it would recommend families choose the inactivated vaccine (flu shot) for their children because of lingering uncertainties over how effective the spray will be.

Ugh.

For these reasons and more, this study, just put out last week, shows that parents are doing their own research and drawing conclusions:

Parents Believe Flu Vaccine is Conspiracy, Causes Autism - Sept. 2018

  • A new study found that a majority of parents believe their child can get the flu from the vaccine
  • MORE THAN HALF OF parents with children under the age of 18 believe that their children can contract the flu from the shot.
  • one-third of parents say the shot does not protect children from contracting the virus
  • some parents remain hesitant, with 28 percent saying the flu shot can cause autism
  • Moorjani said that after years of research, healthcare professionals "know that the flu vaccine is safe."

There does not seem to be a link to the full study results or the questions (not sure how this would not be a survey if it is just questions).  There is a link to this page   which  never says parents think there is a conspiracy (so not sure why that word is used as it tends to indicate a less scientific use of rationale and instead throws in tinfoil hats.).

The autism comment is interesting and may pertain to the use of Thimerosal in flu shots, as parents have probably found articles, research, and blogs (welcome parents!) showing that it is a mercury-derivative and its use can cause immune abnormalities , regression in children , with evidence showing links to autism .

Meanwhile, the media, the CDC, and Pharma continue to report conflicting data.

CNN- Rates of unvaccinated and exempted children on the rise, says CDC Updated 10:24 AM ET, Fri October 12, 2018

This is why parents are doing their own research .  Trust has been eroded for far, too long.
